The City of Westerville was incorporated in 1858, and it now serves as a suburb of Columbus. Historically, the city was known as the "Dry Capital of the World" for laws in place throughout much of the city's history that prohibited the sale of alcohol. Alcohol sales in Westerville were forbidden in 1859, and the city stayed dry throughout much of the 20th century despite the end of Prohibition in 1933. Westerville is located in both Franklin and Delaware counties, and it had a population of just over 36,000 in 2010.
